Opening Night Message
As tonight would have been our opening night I want to tell my cast and crew how much I love and miss them. I know this is so hard for you all. It is hard for me too. All of your hard work, dedication and love of theatre doesn't end with one show. We are not just one company but a part of a global community fighting the same fight. The most important thing is the health and safety of you and your families. This will end and when it does, we will again come together again to do what we have always done. Work hard and create the best theatre we can.
With the suspension of in school learning for the remainder of the year, GUYS & DOLLS is officially cancelled for this school year. I wish with all of my heart that we could have come together in late April, as has been our tradition for 10 years, and show you our work and the amazing talents of our cast and crew. This is not the end of GUYS & DOLLS, however.
As of now I am looking at what our options are for performing the musical when we return to school. We will return to school, the question will remain when? Once we can safely come together we will make a plan to perform the musical. As of now here is what I have done to continue our ability to present GUYS & DOLLS-
1) The set has been constructed and remains on the stage! This is a huge plus because it means that we could stage things quickly
2) The costumes are still ordered and are waiting for the signal to fill and ship the order.
3) The rights to the musical are currently on hold, meaning we can give them new dates without issue. We also still have the rented scripts.
4) When we left rehearsal and suspended in school activities we are at the point in rehearsal when we were starting to run through the show- we would still need rehearsal to finish up but with focus and resolve I know we could do it and do it well.
My main concern is for the seniors. It is my intention to allow any senior who wishes to perform or maintain their tech positions be allowed to do so. Depending on the time frame, we might have to recast or refill positions as creatively as we can, but that is something we would need to address at that time.
Again I thank you all for supporting the students in this difficult time and I know we will come back from this stronger.
